In the WSL TAS today, the Kingborough Lions stormed to an impressive win away at Wentworth park, claiming a 5-0 victory over Clarence United. Laura Davis was the star of the day netting another four goals to take her overall tally to 13 for the season.

Clarence were holding their defensive line well until the 35th minute when they gave away a penalty kick and presented the Lions with the chance to take the lead. Up stepped Davis and she placed it beautifully into the bottom right corner way out of Amelia Vanderniet’s reach.

Only four minutes later and the Lions was gifted yet another penalty for a challenge gone wrong in the box. Zoe Horgan was the next Lion to get her chance from the spot and she made no mistake putting it into the bottom right corner to give Kingborough a 2-0 lead.

There were more woes for Clarence when Jess Downham went down after a nasty knock and had to be stretched off the pitch before the half time break.

Laura Davis then netted another goal when she found space in the box. Firing from a tight angle, the ball rebounded off the right post with enough power to take it back onto the left post before ultimately crossing the line! That made it 3-0 and effectively killed off the game.

Davis would go on to complete her hat-trick when substitute Amy Ollington crossed in a great ball from which the Lions striker made no mistake, nailing the finish.

The final action of the day would take place only a minute later and it was Davis yet again. Finding herself one on one with the keeper she placed her shot into the bottom right corner as calm as you like, to make it four goals for the game.

After the game Kingborough manager Simon Edwards praised his sides efforts. “Didn’t break them down as well in the first half, got the points, good to see some of the girls playing different roles as well”
