City shock the Lions at the Den!

Launceston City have left the Kingborough Lions shellshocked coming away 2-0 winners at Lightwood Park in the NPL TAS.

Both sides had their chances in what was a very lacklustre game of football. Despite Kingborough needing to win to keep their top 4 chances a faint possibility, the home side never got rolling and were punished for their efforts on the scoresheet.

It took till the hour mark for the first goal but it was a quality finish from Thomas Ottavi that gave City the lead when he got onto a ball off a free kick delivery from Martin Mitreski.

Noah Mies added further frustration to the home side when he held up the ball near the corner flag, somehow skipped around his defence and whipped in a great ball to Mackenzie Hancox who headed home past Perkinson.

A loss that has huge rammifications for the Lions, Kingborough have loosened their grip on 5th position with City now just one point behind them. Along with Glenorchy Knights still fighting for that spot the race for a high finish just got more intense!

After the game Kingborough Lions Defender Keenan Douce expressed his disappointment in the teams efforts. “Good opportunity for us to pick up points, if you don’t take them your gonna get hurt” “We just didn’t put our chances away, back to the drawing board and for Devonport away”

Launceston City Manager Lino Sciulli praised his team for coming away with the win. “Estatic, really good win, over the four weeks we have lost four players, under the pump first half but came through.”

“Rhyse Goold went quite well, and Tom Ottavi in only his second NPL game, hope we can call on him a bit more in the future.”
