In the NPL VIC Round 23 action on Friday Night, Kingston City came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Bentleigh Greens with 5 minutes to go. It was tough conditions for both at a cold and wet Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.
In the 14th minute, Bentleigh Greens were given a penalty by referee Lachlan Keevers. A silly challenge from behind caught Marko Jankovic, Ali Sulemani the unlucky man that gave away the spot kick.
Up stepped centre forward Matt Thurtell who sent Kingston City keeper Satoshu Osugi the wrong way, to give the Greens a well deserved 1-0 lead on the balance of play inside 15 minutes.
Midway through the first half Greens made it 2-0 in the 26th minute. Centre Forward Futa Nakamura laid it off to midfielder James Xydias , Xydias smashed it home with a quality finish from outside the box.
Second half started with Kingston City creating the first opportunity on goal, as the ball dropped into its centre forward Erhan Yahaz which went out to its midfielder Caniglia, and his effort was saved by Bentleigh shot stopper Ryan Scott, as Kingston began the better of the two sides.
In the 87th minute, Kingston got their goal when defender Chris Irwin’s surging run delivered a very good cross to super sub Hernan Inostroza’s, who’s effort found the top corner, pastGreens keeper Ryan Scott. Game on at 2-1 with a few minutes left.
In the final seconds of added time Kingston City equalised in the 94th minute when a dangerous cross from Antequera found Centre Back Ajdin Fetahagic. Fetahagic header hit the top corner to rescue a huge point for the visitors.
The draw doesn’t help Bentleigh Greens hopes of the NPL VIC Premiers Plate, with Greens sitting in 3rd spot on 42 points. Greens now fall three points behind 2nd place Heidelberg United, who have a game in hand after they accounted for Dandenong City 3-2 at Frank Holohan Soccer Complex.
Meanwhile for Kingston City still sit bottom of the NPL VIC table on 17 points, but only one point from the relegation playoff spot.
