South and Marconi prepare for battle!

Tonight I had the privilege of being invited to a closed training session at Bellerive (Blundstone Arena) for South Hobart FC (TAS) and Marconi Stallions (NSW) preparations ahead of tomorrow’s FFA Cup clash.

My night started with the visitors Marconi coming out first to the pitch, I quickly got my camera out and started to take some snaps. I zoomed in on one of my photos and questioned “Is that Ante Čović out there?” And sure enough after doing some quick research and double checking my eyes it was Ante! Covic was there tonight as he is Marconi’s goalkeeping coach.

Čović is a former Goalkeeper who is most known for being part of A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers maiden AFC Champions League win over Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, back in 2014. Čović won the Most Valuable Player award at the end of the campaign, mainly for his dramatic last minute save with a huge stretch when it looked Al-Hilal would get the winner!

After Marconi left the field, it was the home side South Hobart’s turn to have a run out. South’s head manager Ken Morton welcomed me onto the pitch and to get an inside look at the facilities/changerooms under Blundstone Arena.

Marconi are currently 5th in the NPL NSW, while South Hobart FC are 3rd in the NPL TAS.

Knockout cup football is always special and I do believe both teams will give us a real show tomorrow in the first ever football game at Blundstone Area.
