In terms of transfer news, the reds finally made their first (and probably last) move of the summer. Ex-West Ham shot-stopper Adrian was brought in to replace Simon Mignolet who completed his move to Belgium club Club Brugge midweek.
Harry Wilson is also currently completing a medical for a loan deal (no option to buy) to Bournemouth for a season.
Anfield kicks off the new Premier League season with a Friday night/Saturday morning (5am AEST) meeting between Liverpool and Norwich. This fixture has a tendency to result in a high-scoring affair (I’m sure you all remember the 5-4 win with Lallana scoring the last minute winner almost 3 years ago)
Liverpool will be looking to put their “poor” pre-season behind them and really show they mean business once again. We should have no issues trying to beat and even demolish Norwich who’s only real improvement from the Championship is the loan signing of Ralf Fahrmann from FC Schalke.
Salah and Firmino looked on fire against Man City in the Community Shield and with Mane to return on the weekend, I expect our attack to run rampant. I would also like to see and expect the Ox get some minutes under his belt, which could also mean more goals. Teemu Pukki may pose a threat but it will be nothing compared to our arsenal (and our defence).
We’ve been given a great opportunity to start the season in style and I expect us to do just that. This should also be a great confidence builder for the UEFA Super Cup match VS Chelsea next week pending a good result. Time to prove we mean business and last season wasn’t just a fluke.
