Melbourne Derby: An Honest Review

A Melbourne derby worth forgetting as both sides shot blanks in a goalless draw at Marvel Stadium

The game got off to a bad start before a ball was kicked with the “pre-match face off” which was intended to strike fear into each and every player, when actually it made me (and I’m sure the players themselves) horribly cringe

I honestly couldn’t recall anything that happened in the first half an hour, a couple of corners and no chances worth mentioning.

Probably the best part of the game was when Galloway (City) tried his luck with a half-volley that went out for a throw-in. Eventually half-time arrived and I couldn’t have been anymore thankful.

We all thought Victory had scored in the 60th minute through a lovely finesse finish from Kamsoba but it was eventually brought back by VAR for offside.

A couple more chances were had and a few scuffles were had at the end but the game ended a draw. Honestly, one of the most boring A-League matches I’ve watched. I’ve been very critical of the league and it’s quality for a few years now and games like tonight are why I’ve been losing enjoyment of the league.

Melbourne City’s Harrison Delbridge was my MOTM. In regards to next week, Victory host Western Sydney next Friday, and City host Adelaide at AAMI Park.
