It was Champions vs Premiers in the first round of the Westfield W-League with Sydney FC hosting Melbourne Victory at Kogarah. A great day for the home fans as Sydney FC collected all 3 points over their bitter rivals with a 3-0 win.

A new season and Sydney return to the ground where they have many fond memories from last season, most notably the 4-1 thrashing of Perth Glory in the W-League Grand Final where the Sky Blues lifted the championship. After retaining many key players from last season, the girls in blue were roaring to go and they wasted no time in showing that they mean business this year.

It only took four minutes for young striker Remy Siemsen to put her team ahead and notch her first goal of the season after Caitlin Foord delivered in a perfect pass for her to slot in the back of the net.

Not a bad way to make your return hey?

Siemsen found the back of the net again when she scored a delightful header to double her team’s lead courtesy of another Foord assist. Two goals in under 30 minutes with these two linking up.

This was looking to be quite the partnership.

Sydney keeper Aubrey Bledsoe (USA) kept her side in it by making several key saves as Victory had several chances towards the end of the first half.

The win was all but secured when Young Matildas Vice-Captain Shadeene Evans put the game to bed and scored a header in the dying embers of the game.

Jubilee erupted with noise. There was singing all around the stadium and even a few beer showers!

The girls went crazy as they celebrated their huge win over the Victory and got their campaign off to the perfect start.
