South Hobart look to the States

NPL TAS’s South Hobart FC have confirmed their two newest import signings from the United States. Enter central defender Patrick Kibler and goalkeeper Chase Webert.

Both signings have come from the PSC (Pro Soccer Consulting) Academy who help aspiring professional footballers find the pathway to professional leagues. PSC have represented notable players like Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City F.C (EPL) and Matty Fryatt who played for Leicester City F.C. (EPL) between 2006-2011 scoring 51 goals.

Kibler recently was playing in the USL League Two (United Soccer Leagues) for GPS Portland Phoenix which is considered but not officially the 4th tier in the American Soccer Pyramid. Portland are based in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference.

I spoke to Kibler tonight and he said nothing but praise for his time with GPS Portland Phoenix

“My time there was great, it’s still considered a semi-pro level in America but a great club that really built up players and helped them grow and become much better as well as demanding a high level from them. The coaching staff was very professional and looked after the players very well and always demanded a high level whether in training or games”

Kibler also shared how his move to South Hobart came about and what his goals are for the upcoming NPL Tasmania season.

“I was contacted by PSC from America that I have worked with before and who have gotten me trials in Europe. However due to some personal reasons I chose to not accept the contract offered. But then they {PSC} came along and said South Hobart was interested in signing me after seeing my highlights and talking to former teammates and coaches. So spoke with Coach Ken Morton and after settling on a few things I decided to make the move down”

“My goals for the season are to get a full first Professional season under my belt and to help lead a very young team both in games and training week in and week out. Also to help the squad in anyway or any position that is asked of me by the boss. And obviously to win the league (NPL TAS) and make the National Premier League playoffs”

Webert comes from Regis University (Denver,Colorado) where he played for Regis University Rangers in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. In 2016 Webert played 2nd team all region in 2016 after making the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship.

“I enjoyed my time at Regis and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference because the level was always high and competitive”

Webert also shared how his move to Tasmania came to fruition and what his aims are for season 2020

“South Hobart reached out to PSC that they needed a goalie and here I am! My goal for the season is to be the top keeper in the NPL and lead our team to a first place finish. As well as qualify for the FFA cup and have a decent run at it.”

South Hobart’s next game is against NPL Summer Cup table leaders Olympia FC Warriors on 19th Feb next Wednesday night at 730pm away at Warrior Park.
