Football Tasmania have today released the semi-finals draw for the Under 20’s, Women’s Statewide and Lakoseljac Cup.
Under 20’s Cup
Riverside will be hosting Olympia Warriors. Riverside will be full of confidence after their quarter-finals 2-1 win over Devonport. Olympia had a convincing 2-0 win in their QF vs South Hobart. Olympia were impressive but face the uncertainty of an away day at at Windsor Park.
Somerset Sharks were able to dispose of South East United in their QF 3-2 win which went to extra time after both teams were 2-2 at FT. Sharks will welcome Glenorchy to Cardigan Street. Glenorchy defeated Kingborough 2-0 in their QF so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Women’s Statewide Cup

WSL title leaders Clarence Zebras will be delighted with drawing Kingborough Lions at Wentworth Park. Lions’ have struggled in the league and currently sit 5th on the standings. Zebras defeated Northern Rangers 5-1 in their QF and will go into this favourites.
Kingborough have had a forgettable season but looked impressive in their 8-0 thumping over Riverside last weekend. Lion’s Laura Davis starred with 5 goals against the Northern side.
Lions could turn the form book on it’s head there if they can put in a similar performance away from home.
Olympia who are sitting 2nd in the WSL will entertain South Hobart at Warrior Park. Olympia’s perfect record was cut short by Zebras last week but if their recent form is anything to go by, they will go into this favourites after a big 7-0 win in their QF over Beachside.
South should not be counted out of this by any margin however. Coach Craig Westwood has done very well with his youth development in his team, turning last year’s bottom placed league team into a more determined side who can grit out a result. This could go either way so i’m on the fence but It’s going to be a great matchup either way.
Lakoseljac Cup

Olympia who looked to possibly make a title race in 2020 have failed to live up such expectations. Warriors’ have drawn another struggling side however in Launceston City to be played at Warrior Park. Last time these two played was in the league in a tight 2-1 victory for Olympia.
Olympia breezed past University 2-0 last weekend and didn’t look in any doubt of the result going their way. Launceston City have had a horrible season in the league sitting bottom with one draw and seven losses.
Their form in the cup though has been quite remarkable. Eliminating last years NPL Champions Devonport in the R16 and last weekend knocking out last years Southern Championship winners Hobart United.
City could turn doubters into believers if they earn their spot in the final.
Glenorchy Knights have drawn the winner of the South Hobart v Kingborough replay after their result was deemed null and void after a rule breach by South Hobart.
You can check out my full report of that here.
Knights were able to come away from Kelvedon Park last weekend with a spot in the semis after defeating Taroona FC 3-0.
Knights have been impressive this year and are going to prove a mountain to climb over for the eventual winner of the replay.
But this is cup football, and anything can happen.
