Women’s Summer Cup Fixtures preview

2020 Women’s Summer Cup champions Clarence Zebras

Women’s football is back for 2021 in Tasmania with the return of the Women’s Summer Cup in late February. Fixtures have now been released on Football Tasmania’s roster portal and are subject to change.

Reigning Summer Cup champions Clarence Zebras will return to action in Round 1 away to last years 4th placed South Hobart midday at D’Arcy St on Sat 20th Feb. With the loss of former Zebras Danielle “DK” Kannegiesser and Bronte Gadon to Kingborough Lions we could see some new faces come into the fray for the travelling side.

There is a sense of excitement down at Lightwood Park with the acquisitions of Kannegiesser and Gadon. Kannegiesser leaves Zebras with 87 goals over six seasons going back to 2014 when she made her debut in that year’s Summer Cup.

Gadon made her WSL debut for Zebras last year playing every game in the campaign. She departs the Eastern Shore side with 42 goals across all competitions with South Hobart and Clarence Zebras over five seasons respectively. Lions striker Laura Davis has also put pen to paper for her 8th season at the Den so expectations will be high on the club to deliver this year.

Round 1 concludes with Kingborough v New Town Eagles FC at Lightwood Park for a 4:30pm kick-off.

Taroona FC one of our newest WSL teams will have their first hit-out v Glenorchy Knights at 2pm on KGV. Coming off an undefeated Southern Championship title and their home ground Kelvedon Park upgrades now complete, Taroona could to be one of the teams to watch in 2021.

Last year’s WSL champions Olympia Warriors will return to action in Round 2 on Saturday 27th Feb v Glenorchy Knights.
